As a Master Esthetician and former spa owner of over 13 years, I can’t express enough the importance of sunscreen. We spend so much time working on our skin and without sunscreen you can undo all the hard work you have put in. The damage from the UVA and UVB rays can make you lose your collagen, elasticity, and cause fine lines, wrinkles, and sunspots.
To make it a little simpler, let’s quickly dive into the difference between UVA and UVB rays. The UVB rays are known as the burning rays. It helps me to remember that the b equals burning. This affects the outer layer of your skin and is the reason we get sunburns and tans. UVA rays are known as the aging rays. The A equals aging, at least that’s my tip to remember. These go deeper into the skin and damage your collagen and cells. This is what causes wrinkles, elasticity loss and sunspots. Knowing the damage of these rays, it’s important to protect our precious skin from further damage.
To make sure you are adequately protected, you need ½ teaspoon of sunscreen for your face and neck. Change the way you apply it and begin with the outer edges, so you won’t miss any spots. A shot glass full for your entire body.
Where to apply Sunscreen that most people forget?
Your face we all know but also the top of your ears, the back of your neck, the front of your neck, your hands, tops of your feet.

Sun Silk Drops SPF 30 – Love adding this to my moisturizer in the morning for added protection or you can use it by itself. It is so easy to use and feels great! It does not have any color, so you can add it to your makeup to enhance the spf. Again, love how simple it is to add to any skincare product you are putting on your face. I just put it on my palms and add it to my face.

Glow Stick – SPF 50 – I can’t express how much I appreciate this design and that is why I added this into my best summer skincare. I use if for myself and for my children. I glide it on my kids’ faces. They can even glide it on themselves. My elementary child took this to school for field day because she can glide it on her face without a mirror. It leaves no mess, no white residue, and takes 1 second to apply. It is so hydrating that it leaves a glowing look to my skin when I apply it!
My Favorite Sun Protection Wear
Extended Sun Visor – Both Ashley and I have this in white, blush, and hot pink. You need to add sun protection wear in your best summer skincare routine. It provides additional protection from the UVA and UVB rays. What I love about this visor that I have not found in other visors is how you can extend the sides of the visor to add extra sun protection when you need it! Not only is it cute but love how much protection it provides our faces without us looking ridiculous. Prices is great too, so that’s why we bought in multiple colors! Between the two of us sisters we have them in white, rose red (which looks like a pretty hot pink) and blush. We will be adding black to our collection next!
As a reminder, a suntan is a sign of DNA damage because of harmful UV rays! So please wear your sunscreen, sun protection wear, and seek shade while outdoors. With fashion, our chest tends to get just as much sun as our face and neck, so don’t forget to apply sunscreen to your decolletage and your hands too. You can also look for shirts that are a higher cut. If you are concerned about not getting your Vitamin D from the sun then add a Vitamin D3 supplement with K2 and COQ10 to support your immune system. This is the Best one we have found and love it and it’s liposomal for better absorption! You want a quality supplement without any gross fillers.
