Glycation and Sugar Face on today’s podcast and blog! What is Glycation in the skin otherwise known as Sugar Face? How can you tell if you have it? What does it look like? Most importantly – what can you do to get rid of it? These are our Spa Skin and Beauty Podcast episode topics today.
But before we begin with Glycation and Sugar Face we wanted to share…
My update on Lyma Laser – Lindsey just took my photos of process with the Lyma Laser. Wow! I realized how well it is working. It has significantly increased my brow growth, lifting of eyelids, tightening of texture in my skin, lifting of entire face. My routine is I use the Lyma Laser for an hour every night. After cleansing my skin, I put the OneSkin eye serum all over my eyes and lids, followed by the OneSkin Facial Moisturizer. I then will top it with a facial oil so the Lyma Laser can glide along my skin. I will hold the Laser on the areas that need additional attention such as my jowls, eye lids, my forehead lines, and my lips.
Increased brow growth, lifting of eyelid at the brow bone, tightening of jowls, under eye has more collagen – overall youthful appearance.
We just received our hair supplies to get rid of grays using serums with shampoo, conditioner, and a scalp massager to stimulate the scalp. I am not wanting to color my hair, but I do not like the grays. I am wanting to restore my hair’s natural color with vitamins and minerals. Lindsey took before photos of my hair and all its grays – and I have a ton! We will let you know the results- takes 180 days. I already love the shampoo, conditioner, and serum! I definitely will continue to purchase these three products for the fact that it makes my hair fuller! Lindsey noticed it after one shampoo and serum application, and I did not tell her what I was doing. She thought I had styled my hair differently and said that she had never seen my hair look so pretty. Again, this was after one shampoo and one serum application – I am so pleased with the results!
Today’s Spa Skin and Beauty Podcast Episode is Glycation otherwise known as Sugar Face
The natural process where sugar damages your skin is through glycation. The sugar in your bloodstream attaches to proteins and produces damaging free radicals called advanced glycation end products (AGEs). As AGEs gather and increase (basically, the more sugar you eat, the more they develop), they damage the proteins around them.
3 Damaging Things Glycation and Sugar Face Does to Your skin?

* Elastin & Collagen are Damaged
Collagen and elastin, which form the foundation of your skin, are the proteins that are most susceptible to harm. These proteins maintain skin’s firmness and elasticity and are what give a healthy, youthful complexion its traits of plumpness and bouncy skin. Your collagen and elastin become stiff, dry, and brittle as a result of AGEs, losing their elasticity. Your complexion will show the impacts in the shape of wrinkles, sagging, and fine lines.
* Removes the Activity of Natural Antioxidant Enzymes
AGEs not only harm the vital proteins in your skin but also disable the body’s own natural antioxidant enzymes. Your skin is more susceptible to free radical damage from environmental aggressors including pollution, blue light, and UV radiation without antioxidant defense. Free radicals cause oxidative stress, which accelerates skin aging, when they are allowed to roam (and bond to the structural proteins of your skin).
* Your Type Of Collagen Is Affected
Your skin has several types of collagen. Three main forms of collagen—Type I, II, and III—are present in your skin. Type I collagen is the weakest and Type III collagen is the strongest in terms of stability and resilience. Glycation converts Type III collagen into Type I, weakening the structural integrity and stability of your skin.
This is what Glycation and Sugar Face looks like
You notice deep crosshatches along your top lip.
Your skin is marked by hyperpigmentation and discoloration.
Particularly towards the area of the laugh line, deep crevices start to show.
Your jowl area’s skin is drooping.
How Can You Get Rid of Glycation and Sugar Face?
Reduce your Sugar Intake – While cutting back on sugar can be challenging, there are a few approaches you can take. Try to avoid hidden sugars (corn syrup, fructose, and glucose – found in ketchup, yogurts, baked beans, and sauces) and limit added sugar to no more than 10% of your daily calorie consumption. High fructose corn syrup is the worst offender in the group. The majority of AGEs are produced by this kind of sugar, which is present in soft drinks, sweetened fruit drinks, and many packaged meals.
Increase the Amount of Water you are drinking – While drinking water doesn’t directly affect your skin’s moisture, it does make it easier for your body to perform the vital processes that support healthy skin. Water is necessary for the synthesis of collagen and elastin, and maintaining hydration can help your body fight glycation’s anti-aging benefits. To stay hydrated, drink a lot of water and include vegetables like cucumber, tomatoes, and watermelon in your diet.
Get more antioxidants and increase your nutrition level – Vitamins B1 and B6 are mentioned as AGE inhibitors in a lot of published studies. Green peas, sesame seeds, and spinach are all sources of vitamin B1 (thiamin), which has potent antioxidant capabilities that aid in the battle against free radicals. Chickpeas, pinto beans, and sunflower seeds all contain vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), which is necessary for the growth and preservation of skin. The body is shielded from the harmful effects of free radicals by antioxidants. These innate vitamins and minerals sabotage glycation by inhibiting the attachment of sugar to proteins. Antioxidants are naturally produced by your body, but you may also get them in common foods like berries, leafy greens, and coffee. They can even be found in skin care products. To keep collagen and elastin in shape and retain their strength for your skin, look for products that contain vitamins C and E.
Beauty sleep -Get adequate sleep—it’s one of our FIERCEST beauty secrets. Your skin works overtime when you sleep to regenerate and repair any damage from the day. According to studies, getting too little sleep results in more wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and a loss of elasticity. But the quality of the sleep is just as crucial as the quantity when it comes to health. Deep sleep is when your body works the hardest to combat the stressors like sugar that cause aging.
