Spring is here! My closet is begging for me to put away the heavy coats and color it happy with flowy flowery dresses and espadrilles. Every season I still like to spice up my collection a bit and find out what the latest trends are. No problem-Janine Rhodes, celebrity stylist, to the rescue!
Trendy tips from the celebrity stylist herself…Enjoy!
LH: I love having fun with the latest trends, but don’t like to invest a lot of money in fads. What inexpensive trend items do you suggest I focus on for this spring?
Janine: I can totally relate to not wanting to invest in fads. This season tunics style tops embroidered in laces and cotton white eyelet fabric is hot. Its a fabric that can be used in every price range. I’ve seen it on the Spring 2011 runway and now it’s in stores like Zara and H&M, great stores to shop the trends for less.
LH: The hottest color for this season is…..
Janine:Honestly I know it’s not a color but I am seeing lots of white. Think bohemian and hippie. That lightweight airy fabric that breaths in the summer. I know you eluded to only one color, but there are splashes of color. Its a flash back to when we learned the primary colors wheel in kindergarten haha, lots of red, blues, and yellows
LH: Who are some upcoming & under the radar designers you would like to shine a spotlight on?
Well of course I am going to say myself, and definitely Haider Ackerman
. His Spring 2011 runway was amazing!
LH: Do you have a staple outfit that you travel in?
Yes! My most comfortable pair of black J Brand
skinny jeans, a black t-shirt, a comfortable sweater or jacket depending on where I am traveling, and shoes that slips on and off (now with security and all I have to make it easy)
LH: What items are in your bag on every trip? Well the obvious would be all the essentials (undergarments, shoes, jeans, etc.) but things I MUSThave and can’t live without would be my flat Iron and curling iron, my Bare Esscentuals, mascara, blush, my Love Spell body spray, Marc Jacobs daisy perfume, and my Kiehls lip gloss.
LH: What is the perfect comfy, stylish & vegetarian friendly must-have shoe for the season?
I am obsessed with Melissa shoes
, the sad part is that I have size 11 feet and they currently don’t make my shoe size, but I’m
checking everyday! They are jelly shoes, but they come in sandals, flats, boots and they are so CUTE!
And the sandals are going to be so great for Spring!
LH: Any tips that can take that outfit from drab to fab?
Janine: There are 2 items I go to to really boost my outfits, I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl and sometimes that alone can make me feel blah. I am really into great jackets and fabulous shoes. Either one alone will help a drab outfit.
LH: For accessories, what do you like to focus on? Any favorites of the moment ( ex. a trendy leaf necklace, oversized cuff or ring, etc.)
Honestly I’m not an accessory kind of girl. I wear the same necklaces and the same rings everyday, my accessory are my shoes or how I style my hair haha. BUT, if I were going to suggest some looks that I am loving at the moment I think if you can rock a head scarf do it! And I’m noticing lots of rings on the hands all at once — big chunky ones or layering them up.
